  1. Planting Seeds:

    • Start cabbage seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date in your area. Plant seeds about 0.5 to 1 cm deep in a seed tray or individual pots. Keep the temperature above 13℃.
  2. Transplanting:

    • Transplant seedlings to the garden bed when they have developed 4-6 leaves. Space them about 20-25cm apart.
  3. Location:

    • Choose a sunny location for your cabbage patch. Cabbage prefers full sun for at least 6 hours a day.
  4. Soil Preparation:

    • Ensure well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Cabbages prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0-7.5).
  5. Watering:

    • Keep the soil consistently moist. Avoid overwatering to prevent diseases.
  6. Fertilization:

    • Fertilize with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer when transplanting seedlings. Side-dress with additional fertilizer when the heads begin to form.
  7. Thinning:

    • If you started multiple seeds per pot, thin to the strongest seedling when they have a couple of true leaves.
  8. Mulching:

    • Apply a layer of mulch around the plants to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
  9. Pest Control:

    • Monitor for pests such as cabbage worms and aphids. Use insecticidal soap or organic pesticides if needed.
  10. Harvesting:

    • Once the leaves have developed, remove 2 to 3 of the lower leaves. Leave 4 outer leaves that are twice the size of a palm and harvest the inner leaves. You can harvest again after 3 to 10 days.
