  1. Planting Seeds:

    • Direct sowing is recommended as the taproot is sensitive to transplanting. Seeds require light to germinate; scatter finely on prepared soil and press down very gently without burying them.
  2. Spacing:

    • Space or thin seedlings to 5–10 cm apart to allow each rosette room to spread flat against the soil.
  3. Location:

    • Select a Full Sun to Part Shade position. In warmer regions, partial shade helps keep soil temperatures low and delays premature flowering.
  4. Soil Preparation:

    • Thrives in light, friable, well-draining sandy loam or garden soil rich in organic material. Clear weeds thoroughly prior to sowing, as young seedlings compete poorly with fast-growing weeds.
  5. Watering:

    • Water gently using a fine mist sprayer during germination so tiny seeds are not washed away. Keep topsoil evenly moist throughout its growing cycle.
  6. Fertilization:

    • Feeds lightly. A single application of balanced organic liquid fertilizer (like seaweed tea or diluted fish emulsion) midway through growth is sufficient for healthy leaf and root development.
  7. Thinning:

    • Thin crowded seedlings when they show their first true leaves, leaving 5–10 cm between plants. Use the thinned microgreens in salads or soups.
  8. Mulching:

    • Apply a light, fine layer of sugar cane or fine straw mulch around mature rosettes to retain soil moisture and keep taproots cool. Avoid covering the leafy rosettes.
  9. Pest Control:

    • Generally hardy, but can attract cabbage white butterflies or aphids during warm periods. Use exclusion netting or spray with organic Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) or insecticidal soap if pest pressure arises.
  10. Harvesting:

    • Harvest the entire plant—including the main root and leaf rosette—when the leaves span 8–12 cm wide before white flower stalks emerge. Dig up gently using a hand trowel and wash roots thoroughly before culinary use.
