I was so delighted to receive such precious Korean chamoe

I was so delighted to receive such precious Korean chamoe. A truly wonderful experience!

It wasn’t easy to import oriental melon seeds and get them through quarantine, but we’re truly delighted to finally be able to supply them to ㅐour customers. Yellow Korean melons are the perfect refreshing fruit to cool down the summer heat—may you enjoy a plentiful harvest!

To encourage more fruits, proper pruning is very important. Please make sure to check the pruning guide on our website under the Korean melon product description. Thank you!

  1. Planting Seeds:

    • Start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost.
    • Sow seeds 1.5-2 cm deep in seed trays or pots with well-draining soil.
    • Alternatively, direct sow outdoors when the soil warms to at least 18°C.
  2. Transplanting:

    • Transplant seedlings after the last frost date, when daytime temperatures are consistently warm.
    • Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for 5-7 days before transplanting.
  3. Spacing:

    • If sowing directly outdoors, plant in hills or mounds spaced 90-120cm apart.
  4. Location:

    • Requires full sun, warm temperatures, good airflow and drainage.
  5. Soil Preparation:

    • Prefers loamy, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0-6.8.
    • Work compost or well-rotted manure into the soil before planting.

  6. Watering:

    • Water deeply and consistently, especially during flowering and fruiting.
    • Avoid overhead watering (water at the base) to reduce the risk of mildew.
  7. Fertilisation:

    • Use a balanced fertiliser at planting.
    • Switch to a low-nitrogen, high-potassium fertiliser when flowers begin to form.

  8. Thinning:

    • Thin direct-sown seedlings early to reduce overcrowding. Leave only the strongest 2-3 plants per mound or row space.

  9. Pest Control:

    • Monitor for aphids, cucumber beetles, and powdery mildew. Use insecticidal soap, neem oil, or floating row covers as needed.
  10. Harvesting:

    • Harvest when fruits are bright yellow, aromatic, and slightly soft when pressed.
    • Overripe melons lose sweetness and firmness, so pick promptly when ready.
